On April 20 and 21, 2013, Duke Club Cycling is hosting a series of RACES for the Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference.
Saturday will feature a Collegiate-only road race based in Hillsborough, followed by a Team Time Trial where the Duke men's national championship winning TTT team will vie for a conference championship. Sunday will feature the second-annual Ninth Street Derby where collegiate racers will compete for ACC Conference Championship titles from 8am to noon (Duke seeks to defend its 2012 conference victory) and amateur racers from beginners to professionals will compete throughout the afternoon. Included throughout the day includes a Derby Dash - a one mile foot race for runners, and a Kid's Derby for children 5-10 preceding the Pro/Am main event at 5:30.
We need your help to make these races possible! If you are willing to volunteer, we would be very, very grateful. You can indicate your willingness and preference by filling out this SURVEY. If you plan on racing on Sunday, you can structure your volunteering around your race as well!
Some sort of food will be provided for volunteers on both days. Descriptions of the different jobs follow:
Corner marshaling - this is the job for which the most volunteers are required. This job basically requires you to stay at one corner on the course and stop traffic when a race group comes through. Fluorescent vests, maps, and more specific directions will be provided. If you have a friend that you'd like to corner marshal with, you can indicate this in the survey! Extra bonus: you get a prime spot to watch all the action.
Driving follow cars for each race field - each field will have one car following behind it to carry spare wheels and pick up any riders who drop out of the race. If you do not wish to volunteer your vehicle (or if it cannot carry one or more bicycles), we will try to find a car for you. Volunteers with cars will be preferentially selected for this job. All follow car drivers will be required to complete a separate insurance waiver at a future date.
Traffic/Parking Marshall - because the criterium (Sunday) is a closed course, we need volunteers to direct people to proper parking areas for the event. This job will most likely be combined with a Corner Marshall position if we do not get enough people.
