Even the world champ rubs shoulders with his competition, and the pavement, from time to time. Come learn how to bump n grind like a pro without getting injured. This is the most fun you can possibly have on the bike, so don’t miss it!

Congratulations to Patrick Hunnicutt and Alex Pfiffner for competing at the NCSU mtb race! Here’s Patrick’s recap:
“Ok, so I would say it went pretty well; Alex and I were definitely the most laid back people there. Um, we made an enemy who rode a very old DH Mongoose that was standing behind us in the registration line when the comment that his bike”should be in a museum” might have been dropped by one of us; I was fortunate enough to beat him. I don’t really know where Alex or myself finished in the field (I would guess that I came in sixthish and Alex came close to the end only because of his five minute thinking break in between the two laps). I got into a fight with a bear halfway which is why it may look like I crashed three or four times and ripped my borrowed jersey (sorry). Alex and I also had our jerseys sized sexy as you can see in the pictures of them pretty much painted on our bodies. All in all it was a ton of fun and more people should come out and race next time just to have a good time. Thanks to Davis for driving us to and from. (Side note: Good luck Alex at nationals next weekend)”

There are two great chances coming up this weekend to get some early-season USAC racing in:
Old Salem Crit (Winston-Salem, Saturday), and Carolina Cup (Greensboro, Sunday).
Event Flyers (check under 9/10 and 9/11).
Email Matt Rinehart (mattdotrinehartatdukedotedu) ASAP if you want to go. These are not covered by Duke Cycling, but are great races nonetheless. If these are your first bike races, make sure to tell Davis Graham that.
See you this weekend!

Seen this around? Did you get one on your bike? Well we think your bike is pretty sweet. Much too nice to be ridden alone. Come ride with us on the roads and trails.
Poke around this site and get an idea of who we are. We are a team that focuses on the collegiate road cycling season (spring), and also do some mountain biking and cyclocross too. We also have about 3-6 organized rides a week and probably a handful more that get emailed out by people looking for bike rides.
Check out our how to join page to find out how to get involved and become a serious Duke Cyclist.
Oh, and come to our organizational meeting: 7pm in Wilson Gym rm 020. Don’t be late, the first 10 people in the door will get free new a lifetime supply of Colnago frames and a handshake from Lance Armstrong. It’ll be epic.

Guest Post from THE NERDY CYCLIST (thenerdycyclist.blogspot.com). Eric is working on a PhD in Machine Learning at Duke. Too pragmatic to be an existentialist, too introspective to be a rationalist. Still frat boy at heart.

I have long had a love-hate relationship with bidons. Let me explain. For several weeks now, my buddy Matt has been badgering me to ride the fast shop ride, and I finally had the chance (read: finally ran out of excuses not) to ride. The route is bascially two loops up the Mt. Sinai Rd. climb. In theory, it’s not that bad of a climb, and I’m not slow, but these guys are rockets. The cracks had already started forming at the base of of Sinai, but I muscled my way up the climb in the middle of the pack, running on adrenaline and the amazement that I was actually sitting in with these guys up what is the biggest local climb we have.
